It never occurred to me that teaching a class with such diversity can be so difficult. Although the video is a bit of an exaggeration and takes the communication styles to an extreme, it does highlight the importance of a high context and scanning approach to communications.
I don't think that we should learn how to combat the different communication styles, rather we should learn how to absorb it, take a step back and analyze by transforming descriptions to interpretations, then customize our response to others in order to achieve effective communication. This may sound easy, but is extremely difficult to do. The best way is to study communication styles, learn the most appropriate responses, and most importantly practice. I also like the globesmart videos, as they have many clips that show how two people can be frustrated because of communication differences and show effective alternative ways to handle it.
